Top 5 Iconic England Lionesses Moments

Top 5 Iconic England Lionesses Moments

Ahead of this year's Euros and to mark our England restock, here are five of THE most iconic Lionesses moments in recent years.

5. Kelly Smith World Cup Boot Kiss

In 2007, England qualified for the World Cup for the first time in a decade. In the second group game Kelly Smith scored a brace, keeping England in the running to progress out of the group stages.

To celebrate, Smith removed her boot, held it up and kissed it - an iconic moment showcasing her individual brilliance on the world stage.

4. Lucy Bronze World Cup Worldies

During the 2015 World Cup knockout stage, Lucy Bronze scored a screamer against Norway to take England through to the quarter-finals.

The Lionesses faced host nation Canada in the quarter-finals, and would make history if they were to reach the semis. Bronze delivered with a 14th-minute header cushioning the underside of the bar, securing the win for her team again.

3. Karen Carney Stoppage Time Carnage

In 2005, England was host nation for the Euros. England squared off against Finland in the tournament opener to a record attendance of 29,092.

With the score level at 2-2, Karen Carney created a moment of magic. Receiving the ball on the half turn, she slid through a beautiful pass before following up and smashing home the initial saved chance in the 90+1 minute, giving England the 3 points in the opening game.

2. Mary Earps Spain-Stopper Save

No iconic Lionesses list would be complete without the mention of Mary Earps’ penalty save against Spain in the 2023 World Cup final.

Earps made multiple big saves against the Spaniards, but none were as big as her penalty save against Hermoso in the 69th minute. The save kept England’s hopes of World Cup glory alive, but it wasn’t meant to be on the night.

1. Chloe Kelly Brings It Home

The single most iconic moment in Lionesses’ history has to be Chloe Kelly’s 110th-minute winner in the 2022 Euros final.

A corner knocked on by Lucy Bronze led to a goal-mouth scramble as Kelly converted the winner on home turf in front of 87,192 believers.
