2019 World Cup by Min
One of my most memorable international football experiences was the opening match of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup between France and Korea at the Parc des Princes, the PSG stadium. It was my first time witnessing a women’s game in such an iconic stadium with such a massive, passionate crowd.
Despite the match result, it was a landmark moment for me to see the teams wearing women’s-specific kits for the first time. The unprecedented level of marketing and visibility surrounding the tournament felt like a real turning point for the international game.
Another highlight was watching the Lionesses playing Germany. It was incredibly exciting to watch as a neutral supporter; the 3-4 scoreline and the relentless pursuit of goals made it a thrilling spectacle. The players' willingness to take risks and keep attacking was a refreshing contrast to the style of football I grew up with.
Even now, every time I walk toward Wembley from the station with the crowd to watch these women's teams play in a full stadium, I find it deeply moving. Despite having been to Wembley many many times like this, the atmosphere at these matches still makes me emotional.
