Arsenal Vs Washington Spirit
Covering Arsenal Women’s opening US pre-season fixture against Washington Spirit was a strong test from a photography standpoint—both in terms of conditions and match tempo. The heat was intense throughout, which always adds an extra layer of difficulty when you’re working pitchside for 90 minutes, but it also brought out a certain sharpness in the game.
The first key sequence came inside ten minutes. The build-up involving Frida Maanum and Little developed quickly, and positioning behind the goal allowed for a clean angle as Alessia Russo reacted to the dropping ball and finished from close range.
Washington’s main attacking threat came through Ouleye Sarr, which required regular repositioning to track transitions. The equaliser just before half-time—a headed finish from a deep delivery.
The second half introduced squad rotation, including the debut of Rosa Kafaji. Russo’s second goal was the standout action of the match. The run, the one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and the composed finish offered a full sequence: approach, control, and conclusion.
Late in the game, Michelle Agyemang provided a near-goal moment, striking the woodwork after another Kafaji pass. Which didn’t quite result in a goal.
Overall, an amazing experience to be there for.
